Empress Kōmyō
Empress Kōmyō was a Japanese empress who reigned during the Nara period, from 749 to 758. She was the wife of Emperor Shōmu and played a significant role in the promotion of Buddhism in Japan. Kōmyō is known for her support of the construction of temples, including the famous Todai-ji, which houses a giant Buddha statue.
Kōmyō was also recognized for her charitable works and efforts to improve the welfare of the people. She established the Kōmyō-ji temple, which served as a center for healing and education. Her reign contributed to the cultural and religious development of Japan during this era.
