Emperor Nikephoros II Phokas ruled the Byzantine Empire from 963 to 969 AD. He was a skilled military leader known for his campaigns against the Arabs and Bulgarians, which expanded Byzantine territory and strengthened its borders. His reign is often noted for its military successes and efforts to restore the empire's power.
Nikephoros II was also known for his administrative reforms and attempts to improve the economy. However, his rule faced challenges, including discontent among the nobility and military leaders. He was ultimately assassinated in a conspiracy led by his own wife, Theophano, and her lover, John Tzimiskes.
