Emperor Agustín I
Emperor Agustín I, born Agustín de Iturbide in 1783, was a key figure in the Mexican War of Independence. He played a significant role in uniting various factions against Spanish rule and was instrumental in the final push for independence in 1821. Following the successful revolution, he declared himself Emperor of Mexico in 1822, establishing a short-lived monarchy.
His reign was marked by political instability and opposition from various groups. In 1823, facing pressure and dissent, Agustín I abdicated the throne and went into exile. He returned to Mexico in 1824 but was soon executed, ending his brief imperial legacy.
