Emmett Till
Emmett Till was a 14-year-old African American boy who was brutally murdered in 1955 while visiting relatives in Money, Mississippi. His death was sparked by an alleged incident involving a white woman, Carolyn Bryant, which led to his abduction and killing by two white men, Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam.
The case gained national attention when Till's mother, Mamie Till, insisted on an open-casket funeral to show the world the violence inflicted on her son. The trial of his murderers ended in acquittal, highlighting the deep racial injustices in the United States and becoming a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement.
