Emmaüs Movement
The Emmaüs Movement is an international organization founded in 1949 by Abbé Pierre, a French priest and social activist. It aims to support homeless and marginalized individuals by providing them with shelter, work, and a sense of community. The movement encourages self-sufficiency through various social enterprises, where participants can earn a living by recycling and reselling donated goods.
The movement operates in over 40 countries, promoting solidarity and social justice. Each Emmaüs community is autonomous, allowing them to tailor their programs to local needs. The overarching goal is to empower individuals to regain their dignity and reintegrate into society.
