Ella May Wiggins
Ella May Wiggins was an American labor activist and folk singer born in 1888 in North Carolina. She became known for her involvement in the textile workers' movement during the early 20th century, advocating for better working conditions and fair wages. Wiggins was a member of the United Textile Workers of America and played a significant role in organizing strikes.
In addition to her activism, Wiggins was also a talented singer and songwriter. She used her music to raise awareness about the struggles faced by workers, composing songs that highlighted their plight. Tragically, her life was cut short in 1925 when she was murdered, but her legacy continues to inspire labor movements today.
