Elizabeth Blackwell
Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman to receive a medical degree in the United States. Born in 1821 in England, she faced significant challenges due to her gender but persevered to graduate from Geneva Medical College in 1849. Her achievement opened doors for women in medicine and inspired future generations.
In addition to her medical career, Blackwell was a strong advocate for women's rights and health education. She co-founded the New York Infirmary for Women and Children in 1857, providing opportunities for women in medicine and improving healthcare for underserved populations. Her legacy continues to influence the field today.
