Elian's Journey
Elian's Journey refers to the story of a young boy named Elian Gonzalez, who was found floating on an inner tube off the coast of Florida in 1999. He had fled from Cuba after his mother tragically drowned while trying to reach the United States. Elian was taken in by relatives in Miami, sparking a national debate over immigration and custody.
The situation escalated when the U.S. government decided to return Elian to his father in Cuba. After a tense standoff and a dramatic raid by federal agents, Elian was reunited with his father in June 2000. His journey highlighted issues of immigration, family, and the political climate between the U.S. and Cuba.
