Elephas Maximus
Elephas Maximus, commonly known as the Asian elephant, is one of the largest land mammals in the world. They are native to various countries in Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. Asian elephants are distinguished by their smaller ears compared to their African relatives and have a more rounded back. They typically weigh between 5,000 to 11,000 pounds and can reach heights of up to 10 feet.
These elephants are social animals, often living in herds led by a matriarch. They are herbivores, primarily feeding on grasses, leaves, and fruits. Elephas Maximus plays a crucial role in their ecosystem by helping to maintain the forest and grassland habitats through their feeding habits.
