Elena Ceausescu
Elena Ceausescu was a Romanian politician and the wife of Nicolae Ceausescu, the General Secretary of the Romanian Communist Party. Born on January 7, 1916, she played a significant role in the Romanian government, particularly during her husband's regime from 1965 to 1989. Elena held various positions, including Deputy Prime Minister, and was known for her influence in political and economic matters.
She was a controversial figure, often criticized for her lavish lifestyle and the oppressive policies of the Ceausescu regime. After the Romanian Revolution in December 1989, both Elena and Nicolae were arrested, tried, and executed for crimes against the state.
