Romanian Revolution
The Romanian Revolution of 1989 was a series of protests and uprisings against the communist regime led by Nicolae Ceaușescu. It began in the city of Timișoara in December and quickly spread across the country, fueled by widespread discontent over economic hardship and political repression.
On December 22, 1989, the revolution culminated in the overthrow of Ceaușescu, who fled but was later captured and executed. The revolution marked the end of over four decades of communist rule in Romania and led to the establishment of a democratic government, paving the way for significant political and social changes.
