Electoral Commission of India
The Electoral Commission of India (ECI) is an autonomous constitutional authority responsible for administering election processes in India. Established in 1950, it ensures free and fair elections at both the national and state levels. The ECI oversees the conduct of elections for the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and state legislative assemblies, as well as the offices of the President and Vice President.
The commission is composed of a Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners, all appointed by the President of India. It has the power to supervise, direct, and control the entire electoral process, including the preparation of electoral rolls and the conduct of elections, ensuring that democratic principles are upheld.
