Elara (Moon)
Elara is one of the largest moons of Jupiter, the fifth planet from the Sun. It was discovered in 1905 by the astronomer Charles Dillon Perrine. Elara is part of a group of moons known as the Himalia group, which share similar orbits and characteristics.
Elara has a diameter of about 86 kilometers (53 miles) and is irregularly shaped, resembling a potato. Its surface is covered with craters, indicating that it has been impacted by other celestial bodies over time. Elara orbits Jupiter at a distance of approximately 11 million kilometers (6.8 million miles).
