Egyptian sarcophagi
Egyptian sarcophagi are large stone containers used to hold the mummified bodies of the deceased in ancient Egypt. They were often elaborately decorated with carvings and paintings that depicted scenes from the afterlife, as well as inscriptions that included spells and prayers to help the deceased in their journey.
These sarcophagi were typically placed inside tombs, which were designed to protect the body and its belongings. The most famous examples are found in the tombs of pharaohs, such as Tutankhamun, where the sarcophagus was made of gold and adorned with precious stones, reflecting the importance of the afterlife in Egyptian culture.
