Eel Farming
Eel farming is the practice of raising eels, primarily the European eel and Japanese eel, in controlled environments for commercial purposes. Farmers typically use tanks or ponds to provide optimal conditions for the eels to grow, including proper water quality, temperature, and food. Eels are carnivorous and are usually fed a diet of fish meal and other protein sources.
The farming process begins with the collection of eel larvae, known as glass eels, which are then nurtured until they reach market size. Eel farming has gained popularity due to the high demand for eel in various cuisines, particularly in Japanese dishes like sushi and unagi.
