Edwin of Northumbria
Edwin of Northumbria was a king who ruled over the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria from around 616 to 633 AD. He is known for uniting various tribes in the region and expanding his kingdom's territory. Edwin was the first king of Northumbria to convert to Christianity, which significantly influenced the spread of the religion in northern England.
Edwin's reign was marked by relative peace and prosperity, allowing for cultural and economic development. However, his rule ended when he was defeated and killed in battle by Cadwallon, the king of Gwynedd, in 633 AD. His legacy includes the establishment of Christianity in Northumbria and the promotion of learning and culture.
