Edward Vernon
Edward Vernon was a British naval officer and politician born in 1684. He is best known for his role in the War of Jenkins' Ear, where he led a successful attack on the Spanish port of Cartagena in 1741. Vernon's naval career was marked by his efforts to improve the British navy and his advocacy for the use of rum in the navy, which led to the creation of the famous drink grog.
