Edward Baker was an American politician and military officer during the 19th century. He served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Illinois and was known for his involvement in the Republican Party. Baker was also a close friend of President Abraham Lincoln. In addition to his political career, Edward Baker was a brigadier general in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He led troops in several battles, including the Battle of Ball's Bluff, where he was killed in action in 1861. His legacy is remembered for his contributions to both politics and military service.
