Education for All Handicapped Children Act
The "Education for All Handicapped Children Act," also known as Public Law 94-142, was enacted in 1975 to ensure that children with disabilities have access to a free and appropriate public education. This law mandates that schools provide special education services tailored to meet the individual needs of these children, promoting their inclusion in regular classrooms whenever possible.
The act also established the principle of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), which are customized plans designed to support each child's unique learning requirements. Additionally, it emphasized the importance of parental involvement in the education process, ensuring that families have a voice in their child's educational journey.
