Edmund the Martyr
Edmund the Martyr was a king of East Anglia who reigned in the 9th century. He is best known for his resistance against the Viking invasions during a time of great turmoil in England. After being captured by the Vikings, he refused to renounce his Christian faith, which ultimately led to his martyrdom.
Following his death, Edmund was venerated as a saint, and his cult grew in popularity. His remains were believed to have miraculous powers, and he became the patron saint of England and East Anglia. His feast day is celebrated on November 20th each year.
