Edgar Lee Masters
Edgar Lee Masters was an American poet and writer, born on August 23, 1868, in Garnett, Kansas. He is best known for his collection of poems titled Spoon River Anthology, published in 1915. This work features a series of monologues from the deceased residents of a fictional small town, revealing their lives, struggles, and secrets.
Masters' writing style is characterized by its free verse and conversational tone, making it accessible to a wide audience. Throughout his career, he published numerous other works, including plays and novels, but Spoon River Anthology remains his most celebrated contribution to American literature. He passed away on March 5, 1950.
