Eastern whip-poor-will
The Eastern whip-poor-will is a nocturnal bird found in North America, particularly in wooded areas and open fields. It is known for its distinctive call, which sounds like "whip-poor-will," and is most active during dusk and dawn. This bird has a mottled brown and gray plumage that provides excellent camouflage against tree bark and leaves.
These birds are part of the nightjar family and primarily feed on insects, catching them in flight. The Eastern whip-poor-will is a migratory species, spending winters in Central America and returning to the eastern United States in spring to breed.
