Eastern lowland gorillas
Eastern lowland gorillas, also known as Grauer's gorillas, are the largest subspecies of gorillas. They inhabit the dense forests of the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. These gorillas are characterized by their robust bodies, long arms, and a distinctive silver back in adult males. They primarily feed on leaves, fruits, and stems.
These gorillas are critically endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, and civil unrest in their region. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their habitat and ensure their survival. Eastern lowland gorillas play a vital role in their ecosystem by helping to disperse seeds and maintain forest health.
