Eastern Wood-Pewee
The Eastern Wood-Pewee is a small, grayish-brown songbird found in wooded areas across eastern North America. It has a distinctive, slightly rounded head and a short, stout bill. This bird is known for its soft, whistled call, which sounds like "pee-wee," and is often heard during the breeding season from May to August.
These birds primarily feed on insects, catching them in mid-air during flight. They prefer habitats such as deciduous forests and edges, where they can easily find food and nesting sites. The Eastern Wood-Pewee migrates to Central America for the winter, returning to its breeding grounds in the spring.
