The Eastern Lowland Gorilla (*Gorilla beringei graueri*) is the largest subspecies of the eastern gorilla. They inhabit the dense forests and mountainous regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. These gorillas are known for their robust build, with males weighing up to 450 pounds. Their diet mainly consists of leaves, fruits, and stems.
Eastern Lowland Gorillas are critically endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, and civil unrest in their native regions. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their habitats and promote awareness about the importance of preserving these magnificent creatures, which are closely related to humans and share about 98% of our DNA.
