E-Sign Act
The E-Sign Act, or the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act, was enacted in 2000 to facilitate the use of electronic signatures and records in commerce. It ensures that electronic signatures have the same legal standing as traditional handwritten signatures, promoting the acceptance of digital transactions.
Under the E-Sign Act, businesses and consumers can agree to use electronic documents and signatures for contracts and agreements. The law requires that parties consent to electronic communication and that they are provided with clear information about their rights, ensuring transparency and security in electronic transactions.
