Dutch National Anthem
The Dutch National Anthem, known as "Wilhelmus," is one of the oldest national anthems in the world, dating back to the 16th century. It was written in honor of William of Orange, the leader of the Dutch revolt against Spanish rule. The anthem consists of 15 stanzas, but typically only the first stanza is sung during official events.
"Wilhelmus" reflects themes of loyalty, bravery, and the struggle for freedom. The melody is derived from a popular tune of the time, and the lyrics emphasize the connection between the Dutch people and their heritage. It is an important symbol of national identity in the Netherlands.
