Dutch Delta Works
The Dutch Delta Works is a series of dams, sluices, locks, dikes, and storm surge barriers located in the Netherlands. It was constructed to protect the low-lying areas of the country from flooding, especially after the devastating North Sea Flood of 1953. The project is considered one of the most impressive feats of civil engineering in the world.
Completed in the 1990s, the Delta Works includes notable structures like the Oosterscheldekering, a storm surge barrier that can be closed during extreme weather. This extensive system not only safeguards lives and property but also helps manage water levels in the surrounding areas.
