Dunkirk Evacuation
The Dunkirk Evacuation, also known as Operation Dynamo, took place during World War II from May 26 to June 4, 1940. It involved the evacuation of Allied soldiers, primarily from Britain and France, who were surrounded by German forces in the coastal town of Dunkirk, France. Approximately 338,000 troops were rescued and transported across the English Channel to safety.
The operation was marked by the use of a variety of vessels, including military ships and civilian boats, which played a crucial role in the evacuation. Despite heavy bombardment and challenging conditions, the successful retreat allowed the Allies to regroup and continue fighting in the war.
