Dumbbell Nebula
The Dumbbell Nebula, also known as Messier 27 or NGC 6853, is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Vulpecula. It was the first planetary nebula to be discovered, identified by Charles Messier in 1764. The nebula is approximately 1,360 light-years away from Earth and has a diameter of about 2.5 light-years.
The Dumbbell Nebula is shaped like an hourglass or a dumbbell, which is how it got its name. It is formed from the outer layers of a dying star that has shed its material, creating a glowing shell of gas and dust. The central star, a white dwarf, emits ultraviolet light that ionizes the surrounding gas, causing it to shine brightly.
