Dukes of Tyrol
The Dukes of Tyrol were rulers of the historical region of Tyrol, located in the Alps, which is now part of modern-day Austria and Italy. The title emerged in the late 12th century and was held by various noble families, most notably the House of Habsburg. The dukes played a significant role in the political and economic development of the region, overseeing trade routes and local governance.
The duchy was officially established in 1363 when Count Meinhard II of Tyrol was elevated to duke. Over the centuries, the dukes expanded their influence, integrating Tyrol into the larger Habsburg Empire. The title continued until the dissolution of the monarchy in 1918, marking the end of the ducal lineage in Tyrol.
