Duke Of Gelre
The Duke of Gelre was a title held by the rulers of the historical region of Gelre, located in what is now the eastern part of the Netherlands. The title emerged in the late Middle Ages and was associated with the powerful noble family of House of Gelre. The dukes played a significant role in the political landscape of the Low Countries during their reign.
The most notable Duke of Gelre was Charles of Egmond, who ruled from 1473 to 1538. His reign was marked by conflicts with neighboring territories and involvement in the broader struggles of the Burgundian Netherlands. The title eventually became obsolete as the region was integrated into the Habsburg Empire.
