Duke Leopold V of Austria
Duke Leopold V of Austria, born in 1157, was a member of the House of Babenberg. He ruled as Duke of Austria from 1177 until his death in 1194. Leopold was known for his efforts to strengthen the duchy and expand its territories, as well as for his role in the Crusades.
Leopold V is perhaps best remembered for his involvement in the capture of Richard the Lionheart during the Third Crusade. After Richard was taken prisoner, Leopold held him for ransom, which significantly impacted the political landscape of the time.
