Duke Friedrich
Duke Friedrich, often referred to as Friedrich the Wise, was a notable figure in the history of the Holy Roman Empire. He ruled over the Electorate of Saxony during the early 16th century. Friedrich is best known for his support of Martin Luther and the Reformation, providing protection to Luther after the latter's excommunication from the Catholic Church.
Friedrich was also a patron of education and the arts, founding the University of Wittenberg in 1502. His leadership helped shape the religious landscape of Germany, as he played a crucial role in the spread of Protestantism and the establishment of new theological ideas during a transformative period in European history.
