Duchy of Saxe-Gotha
The Duchy of Saxe-Gotha was a historical territory in what is now Germany. It was established in the early 17th century as part of the larger region of Saxony. The duchy was known for its cultural contributions and was ruled by the House of Saxe-Gotha, which was a branch of the House of Wettin.
In 1825, the duchy was merged with the Duchy of Saxe-Altenburg to form the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. The region played a significant role in the political landscape of Germany during its existence, contributing to the development of various cultural and educational institutions.
