Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin
The Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin was a historical state in northern Germany, established in the early 12th century. It was part of the larger Mecklenburg region and became a significant political entity within the Holy Roman Empire. The duchy was known for its agricultural economy and rich cultural heritage, including notable architecture and art.
In 1918, following World War I, the duchy was dissolved, leading to the establishment of the Free State of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The area is now part of the modern German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which retains many historical sites and traditions from the duchy’s past.
