Duchy of Brandenburg
The Duchy of Brandenburg was a historical territory in central Europe, primarily located in what is now northeastern Germany. Established in the 12th century, it became a significant political entity within the Holy Roman Empire. The duchy was ruled by the House of Hohenzollern, which played a crucial role in the region's development and expansion.
In 1417, the Duchy of Brandenburg was elevated to an electorate, becoming the Electorate of Brandenburg. This status allowed it to participate in the election of the Holy Roman Emperor. Over time, it laid the foundation for the later formation of the Kingdom of Prussia and the eventual unification of Germany.
