Draft Registration
Draft registration is the process by which eligible citizens sign up for potential military service. In the United States, this system is managed by the Selective Service System, which requires males aged 18 to 25 to register. This ensures that the government can quickly mobilize individuals in case of a national emergency or military need.
Registration does not mean immediate enlistment; it simply places individuals in a pool for potential conscription. Failure to register can lead to penalties, including fines or restrictions on federal benefits. The draft has not been active since the Vietnam War, but registration remains a legal requirement.
