Downburst
A downburst is a powerful and localized weather phenomenon characterized by a strong downward rush of air from a thunderstorm. This descending air can create damaging winds that spread out upon reaching the ground, often exceeding 100 miles per hour. Downbursts can pose significant hazards to aviation and can cause destruction to buildings and vegetation.
There are two main types of downbursts: microbursts and macrobursts. A microburst is a smaller, more intense version, typically affecting an area less than 2.5 miles wide, while a macroburst can impact a larger area. Both types can lead to severe weather conditions and are closely monitored by meteorologists to ensure public safety.
