Domeyko Range
The Domeyko Range is a mountain range located in northern Chile, stretching approximately 1,000 kilometers. It runs parallel to the western edge of the Atacama Desert and is part of the larger Andes mountain system. The range is characterized by rugged terrain, volcanic formations, and significant mineral deposits, making it an important area for mining activities.
Named after the Polish geologist Ignacy Domeyko, the range is home to various ecosystems and unique wildlife. Its highest peak, Nevado de Tres Cruces, reaches an elevation of about 6,629 meters. The Domeyko Range plays a crucial role in the region's climate and hydrology, influencing local weather patterns.
