Dolly (Doll)
Dolly, the sheep, was the first mammal to be cloned from an adult somatic cell. She was created in 1996 by scientists at the Roslin Institute in Scotland. Dolly's birth marked a significant milestone in genetic research, demonstrating that it was possible to create a genetically identical organism from a mature cell.
Dolly was named after the singer Dolly Parton because the cell used for cloning came from a mammary gland. She lived for six years and had several offspring. Dolly's creation raised ethical questions about cloning and its implications for science and society.
