Dogra dynasty
The Dogra dynasty was a royal family that ruled the region of Jammu and Kashmir in northern India from the early 19th century until 1947. Founded by Gulab Singh, a former general in the army of the Sikh Empire, the dynasty established its rule after the Treaty of Amritsar in 1846, which granted Gulab Singh sovereignty over Jammu and Kashmir.
Under the Dogras, the region saw significant administrative and infrastructural developments. The dynasty is known for its efforts to integrate diverse communities and promote trade. However, their rule also faced challenges, including political unrest and demands for greater autonomy, especially during the period leading up to India's independence.
