Divestment
Divestment is the process of selling off assets or investments, often for ethical, financial, or political reasons. Organizations, such as universities or pension funds, may choose to divest from certain industries, like fossil fuels or tobacco, to align their investments with their values or to reduce financial risk.
The goal of divestment is to pressure companies or governments to change their practices by reducing their financial support. This strategy has been used in various movements, including those against apartheid in South Africa and more recently in efforts to combat climate change by targeting companies involved in fossil fuels.
