Dipteran Insects
Dipteran insects, commonly known as flies, belong to the order Diptera. This group is characterized by having a single pair of wings, with the second pair modified into small structures called halteres, which help with balance during flight. Dipterans are found in various habitats and play essential roles in ecosystems, including pollination and decomposition.
Many dipteran species are known for their rapid reproduction and adaptability. Some, like houseflies and mosquitoes, are considered pests due to their association with disease transmission. Others, such as fruit flies, are important in scientific research, particularly in genetics and developmental biology.
