Diplura
Diplura are small, wingless arthropods belonging to the class Entognatha. They typically measure between 2 to 10 millimeters in length and are characterized by their elongated bodies and two long, thread-like appendages at the rear, known as cerci. These creatures are primarily found in soil and leaf litter, where they play a crucial role in decomposing organic matter.
Diplura are often mistaken for springtails or silverfish due to their similar appearance. They are mostly nocturnal and feed on decaying plant material, fungi, and microorganisms. With over 800 known species, they contribute to soil health and nutrient cycling in various ecosystems.
