Digitalis purpurea
Digitalis purpurea, commonly known as foxglove, is a biennial plant native to Europe. It features tall spikes adorned with tubular flowers that can be purple, pink, or white. The plant typically grows in woodland areas and thrives in well-drained soil.
The leaves of Digitalis purpurea contain compounds called cardiac glycosides, which have medicinal properties. These compounds are used in treating heart conditions, but the plant is also toxic if ingested improperly. Due to its striking appearance, foxglove is often cultivated in gardens for ornamental purposes.
