Didius Julianus
Didius Julianus was a Roman Emperor who ruled for a brief period in 193 AD. He came to power after winning an auction for the throne, offering the highest bid to the Praetorian Guard, the elite soldiers responsible for the emperor's protection. His reign was marked by instability and discontent among the Roman populace and military.
Julianus's rule lasted only about nine weeks before he was overthrown. He faced opposition from rival claimants, including Septimius Severus, who ultimately defeated him. After his capture, Julianus was executed, and his unusual rise to power is often cited as a reflection of the chaotic nature of the Roman Empire during this time.
