Denis I
Denis I, also known as Denis of Portugal, was the King of Portugal from 1279 to 1325. He was the son of King Afonso III and is often referred to as "the Farmer King" due to his efforts in promoting agriculture and forestry. Denis I established the first Portuguese university in Lisbon, which later moved to Coimbra, enhancing education in the kingdom.
During his reign, Denis I worked to strengthen the monarchy and improve the economy. He was known for his diplomatic skills, particularly in maintaining peace with neighboring kingdoms. His legacy includes the promotion of the Portuguese language and culture, which flourished under his rule.
