Demetrius Poliorcetes
Demetrius Poliorcetes was a Macedonian king and military leader, born in 337 BC. He was the son of Antigonus I Monophthalmus, one of the generals of Alexander the Great. Demetrius is best known for his sieges and military tactics, earning the nickname "Poliorcetes," which means "the besieger." He played a significant role in the Wars of the Diadochi, the conflicts that followed Alexander's death.
Demetrius ruled over various territories, including Macedonia and parts of Asia Minor. His reign was marked by both military successes and failures, including his famous siege of Rhodes in 305 BC. Despite his ambitions, he eventually faced defeat and was captured, leading to his decline in power.
