Deimos
Deimos is one of the two small moons of Mars, the other being Phobos. It is much smaller than our Moon, measuring about 12 kilometers across. Deimos has a rocky surface covered in a layer of dust and debris, giving it a very uneven appearance. It orbits Mars at a distance of about 23,460 kilometers, making it the farther of the two moons.
Unlike Phobos, which is slowly spiraling toward Mars, Deimos is moving away from the planet at a rate of about 1.8 centimeters per year. This means that over millions of years, it will drift further into space. Deimos is also known for its unique, elongated shape, resembling a potato more than a sphere.
